‘Kickoff to Rebuild’ Fields 500 Volunteers for Blitz Style Work Day in West Tampa Community

Rebuilding Together Announces 14th Annual ‘Kickoff to Rebuild’ Plans

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Rebuilding Together, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable homeownership, will partner with the NFL and the Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay affiliate at Super Bowl XLIII for the 14th annual “Kickoff to Rebuild.” The project has been preserving affordable homeownership and revitalizing Super Bowl cities for 14 years.

This year, Kickoff to Rebuild will include a blitz style work day — improving 15 homes in the West Tampa community on Friday, January 30th. After the work day, volunteers and community members will enjoy a block-party style celebration of their hard work and dedication to rebuild. More than 500 volunteers from the Tampa community, local and national sponsors, as well as current and former NFL players, will donate time, money and materials for the West Tampa work day to supply free home repairs.

For the 2009 Kickoff to Rebuild, the American Petroleum Institute (API) is supporting the West Tampa event as title sponsor. In partnership with API, volunteer teams in West Tampa will focus on providing energy efficient measures for homeowners and safe and healthy housing standards.

“The partnership between API and Rebuilding Together has and will have a long term effect on the homeowners we assist. By installing energy efficient products in their home, we not only enable them to live in more comfort, but to benefit from the repair monetarily by saving money,” stated Gary A. Officer, President and CEO for Rebuilding Together.

Officer continued, “Being able to showcase this project at the Super Bowl as part of our long standing relationship with the NFL helps bring awareness to the need to preserve affordable homeownership in America and give help to those who need it, so they can live in safe and comfortable housing. We thank the NFL once again for this opportunity.”

Rebuilding Together is proud to team up with the NFL and API to bring much needed repairs and aid to West Tampa community homeowners. These relationships allow Rebuilding Together to mobilize more volunteers and make a difference in Super Bowl communities.

“API is proud to be part of this worthy national effort which underscores the important benefits energy efficiency can bring to homeowners in increasing their comfort and reducing the costs of home ownership,” said API President and CEO Jack Gerard. “We are honored to work with Rebuilding Together, whose people are doing magnificent work every day, in support of the Energy Efficient Homes Initiative.”

The West Tampa community is a historic neighborhood that has taken significant measures in recent years to reinvigorate its traditions and legacy within Tampa. It is a community primed for revival and prepared to rebuild the historic buildings and homes that characterize the community between its Central Business District and the Westshore Business District. In the heart of the West Tampa district, the old West Tampa neighborhood is an area that combines urban living with historical preservation.
