Real Wood Floors: US Wood Flooring is Renewably Harvested

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ — Millions of acres of forest land are
harvested illegally through the world each year, contributing to global
warming and the destruction of wildlife habitat. The National Wood Flooring
Association understands the importance of protecting our natural resources and
has developed a new program to help consumers identify products that promote
responsible forest management.

The “NWFA Verified from US Renewing Forests” seal identifies those
companies that source their wood from US forests that practice renewable
harvesting. In simplified terms, the material used from these forests is
replenished at a rate that exceeds harvest, meaning that more trees are
planted than are cut down, which ensures our natural resources for generations
to come.

For wood that is imported from countries outside the United States, the
“NWFA Verified Legal Import” seal identifies those companies that source only
wood products that meet national and international standards for legal timber
harvest.

Both seals clearly identify those products that help protect our
environment, and each is transitional to higher levels of environmental
consciousness and social responsibility through the Forest Stewardship
Council.

The bottom line is that you can be assured that the wood you buy carrying
the “NWFA Verified from US Renewing Forests” seal or the “NWFA Verified Legal
Import” seal is coming from legally harvested renewing forests. It’s one more
way we can work together to preserve our natural resources for generations to
come.
